"Just surfing the net and found your site. I was particularly interested in the "Ask Katerina" pages as you have billed yourself as the "Dear Abby of the Internet." I hope you don't mind me making some comments.
I wish to say that I am very happy you have tried so hard to help people and I do respect that. I must say, however, I was a bit shocked to see your response to the post on polygamy.
First of all, you are answering from a religious perspective of Christianity. Knowing this, I felt that your answer would probably come from the perspective of Biblical teachings, customs and life without regard to today's culture. (Obviously, modern culture teaches a great many things that are anti-Biblical). I was surprised to find so much of today's cultural influence in your response as opposed to Biblical wisdom. For example, you write:"

"I believe we are in agreement on this scripture, which brings up my next point. Sex between any man and a single women (not when consumating a marriage) is considered fornication, not adultery. Both are sin, but in Old Testament times as well as New Testament times, there was a distinction between the single woman (virgin) and the married woman (woman)."

Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Here is where I have a question about Polygamy. If a man is already married and he sees another woman he wants for his wife, is he not looking at her with desire? Is this not considered adultery according to Mathew? He has a wife. He desires another. I beleive the only way to escape this is to marry all the women at once. Because once you marry all others are considered adultery. They are not your wife but another woman. So I feel that when your husband became engaged to you while he had a wife (in the eyes of God) he commited adultery against her according to God's Word.

Your statement that once you marry, all others are considered adultery is not Biblical truth. Nowhere in the Bible is this statement made. It is, however, something our society dictates, but not a Biblical concept. To say that polygamy is a sin based on this scripture would be wrong."
Genesis 2: 21,11,21,24
Now the subject of one wife. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up theflesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
"I believe the part of this passage you are focussing is probably "they shall be one flesh". You must know if you have studied Hebrew that this passage is not talking about some mystical, soulish union, but the act of sex. It means that a man and wife will have sex."
Deuteronomy 17:17
Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, let his heart turn away;
"A very dangerous thing that Solomon did. He multiplied wives unto himself to the point that his wives and concubines numbered close to 1,000. You and I both know what happened. His pagan wives convinced him to build temples to their Gods.
However, the rest of that passage also tells us that a king should not multiply to himself money or horses.
Hmm, now, how many dollars are the limit? 1? How many horses are the limit? 1?"
I am glad to see you lump your wives in the same catagory of dollars and horses. As a female I would find this most alarming if my husband found me equal to such commodities. I would hope I would be worth more to him as his wife and as one who shares his life and his bed.

Again, you refer to Old Testament times throughout all of this letter. Where is Jesus?
Leviticus 18:18
Neither shall you take a woman as a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness while the other is alive.
"Here you are proving that polygamy is acceptable, for in the Law is showing that although polygamy is acceptable, a man must not take sisters in order to vex his first wife."
Here you have totally misinterpreted the passage. Often fellow human beings were referred to as brothers and sisters in these times. This passage saying not to take a sister as a rival means not to take her as another wife. And if you feel I am wrong on this point, then how about "to uncover her nakedness while the other is alive" ? I believe there is only one way to translate this. It is simple. Do not have sex with any other woman while you have a living wife. Period.
"Other places in the law also have rules for polygamy. God's law proves He approves of it."

Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable,hospitable, able to teach.
"You must be using the NIV Bible here, which admittedly takes liberties to write what the translators felt the author "meant to say."
No, I use the King James Version.

He did not approve it either. I believe he mentions absolutely nothing about it. At least I have yet to see it. I have read the entire Bible.

Yes a man must be married and be of one wife! It is very specific here. It says beyond any doubt that an Elder and a Biship must have only ONE wife. You conviently omitted this.

No. God says Elders and Bishops are to set an example for us to follow. And he says we should mold our Holiness after Jesus and their example of living. He does not give permission for us to live in Plural Marriages simply because the lay people are not mentioned. How can one live a chaste, clean life if the ones who head our Churches are not Holy? If the Church leaders do not do their best to live a life of Holiness then it is not a church of our Lord they are head of..I would venture to say it is more of the Satanic persuasion.
Mathew 19:9
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.
"I agree, replacing a wife is a sin. No woman should feel she has been replaced as serial monogamy does. It would have been so easy here for Jesus to say, "And a man who takes an additional wife commits adultery" but He did not. In fact, no where in the Bible is polygamy said to be a sin, yet the Bible meticulously categorizes all kinds of sexual sin.

Again wrong. He does not condone it either. Granted, there is alot about Him in the Old Testament and such things. But I still see nothing that says it is good for a man to have more than one wife. Actually I have seen where it is not good.
Gensis 2:18
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." (Notice a "helper" not "helpers." )

If you are saying that this means the sexual union then the passage means a man is to have sex with only one woman. Which would mean if a plural marriage is to be Holy the husband cannot have sex with more than one of the wives for all of them would be one flesh.
I found many passages in the Old Testament that states men of that time period had many wives. I also believe this was the way of the land and not God's way.

I saw nothing where God said specificly that a man is permitted to have more than one wife. Quite the contrary.

You have blasphemed our Lord. Calling him a Bigamist. A Bigamist is a criminal. He was referring to "land" not women. Many lands were referred to as "wives" describing them as terms of endearment.
Referring to an early quote..would you give a man your daughter to have sex with her rather than have sex with him yourself if he visits your house and he has sexual desires? This is scriptural. If you follow the Old Testament in it's entirety then you would do this and it would be right. Is it right? Would you cause your daughter to loose her virgintiy to a "guest"? Is everything in the Old Testament valid law which holds true today? If it is, again then you do not follow Jesus. In the Old Testament Jesus has not come yet. The New Testament is "in addition to" the Old Testament. The fact that Jesus came and exists in the New Testament cancells us waiting for the Messiah that God promised in the Old Testament. So you see Jesus did change some of the Old Testament beliefs. He clarified many issues of the Old Testament. Adultery is one of them. Monogamous marriages is another. Those of you who do not follow the teaching of Jesus and prefer to live in Old Testament times are not believing that Jesus is who he said he was.
Jesus came not to change God's Law but to elaborate on it and make it more understandable.

The seventh Commandment God gave to Moses on the mountain said: Thou shalt not commit adultery. Jesus went farther with it. (see scripture above)

I have meditated deeply on this. When I receive Divine Guidence I take this to mean for me and not all mankind. The Holy Spirit and I are the ones in converstation and I am listening. Here is what I received. I must only take one husband. I must serve him well as his wife. I must not partake in any adulterous relationships. If I marry a man who asks me to commit adultery I must leave him and be unmarried. He is not a man of God. I must only be yoked to a man of God who has the virtues of the Lord. He will guide me in the ways that God would. I am only permitted to a man who is not an adulterer as well

It would be adultery since he would looked upon another woman with lust in his heart while he has a wife.God gives the Believer pemission to remarry under such circumstances. If you are a man of God you should already know this.

was the first in authority after Jesus. The church he continued on with
does not honor polyamy ( many believe it was the Orthodox Catholic Church).
You just answered your own question as to whether it was legal in the church
or not.

Modern day polygamy is a sin.

The courts are also trying to pass equal rights for Gays in the military. And Gay marriages. And they are also trying to take Social Security at an all time low. The are also trying to erradictate a woman's right to make choices over her own body. So, you see our land is perverse. Our courts tend to follow the concensus of the general population since this is what gets votes rather than God's way since this is not what gets votes. So you are out to lunch here.

I cannot respect anything as being "from God" that is not totally lived in accordance of God. This would not be a religion of God but the religion of a Cult.

Second Update:
On September
16th I visited the website of Solomon.
Below is what I found. I was astounded
to see the
accusations I found below. He told me in an email he preferred to not email
me
anymore yet
he says I stopped communication. He calls me a liar yet I noticed on his
page last week when I visited it that his counter regestered only a few
hundred visitors. He informed me he had only had the page a few weeks.
Today I noticed, in only one short week that his counter has jumped to
144,446! Amazing! I believe even Mr. Starr's counter has not moved like
this on the Presidential Report of President Clinton which has the traffic
the the United States. There can be only one conclusion. He has nothing
to do but sit at his website all day and hit the reload button. Or has
his wives lined up with their own computers. More propaganda. Also compare
our corres- pondence on his page to the correspondence on this page. You
will find it greatly altared by Mr. Plural. Alot of my email was deleted
and his was changed. This is what others do when they fail and must make
their winning opponent look like the looser. Anyone who cares to see the
email and the date where Solomon tells me he wishes to have no further
contact with me just email me and I will forward it to you. Although I
am sure you will not find it important enough. Oh you might be interested
in knowing, incase you have a problem or a marriage question Solomn now
has an "Ask Solomon" page...hehehehe. I can't wait to follow it. He now

Subject: Plural Marriages
Hi Katerina,
"I have been a fan of your web site for some time and I feel that you have a great insight and wisdom. You have helped many people and I pray God will bless you for your efforts. I am a born again Christian as well and I would like to see how you feel about the lifestyle God has given my family and I. When I was 19 years old I became engaged and married to a man who already had a wife under the law of God (there was no certificate of marriage). I am now a part of their family and his first wife and I have become like sisters. We live a normal life and although we have faced much opposition from those who don't agree or understand the lifestyle that God has given us, we are happy with our lives and never regret the way we live. We are all spiritually minded and have strong relationships with the Lord and through different changes of events we were all shown that this was the will of God.
I urge you to check out the Christian polygamy sites on the web before you answer. I don't know your views on this subject but there are others out there whom God has spoken the same thing to. I also urge you to read up on this topic in the word, you may be surprised at what you find. Particularly in the life of King David.

A Second Wife
Dear Sister,
I was very happy to get your letter. I hope that you and your family are well. Although I must admit you left me kind of baffled. I have never been approached with this subject before. Because I wanted to give you the answer that the Holy Spirit has given to me I did much reasearch and meditation on this issue. My intention before we begin is not to offend nor make a sister fall. And most certainly I say these things in kindness. I am only human. So below find God's Words and mine. Keep in mind God's Words are Law. Mine are simply that, my opinion. I suggest you search your heart and let the Holy Spirit be your guide in making decisions of the heart (or anything else). Ok here we go.
First let's look at Adultery.

Conclusion
Polygamy is
against the law. It is called Bigamy and punishable by our laws of today.
I believe God prefers us to not break the laws. I believe God feels as
His children we are to uphold the laws and abide by them as if they were
His laws. How can one say breaking the law is of God? I believe Polygamy
today is that of Cults that have evolved in our times.The Church Jesus
established strongly abhorrs polygamny. Evidence is above. Our world is
headed for a major change. These false churches with their false doctrines
and their false prophets will crumble. Prepare for a new awakening. The
original church of our Lord God is about to emerge. There are many churches
who have twisted God's law to suit their purposes. These are the very churches
that will crumble under God's rule. Certain churches use the Bible to intimidate
and control others. This is not God's way.
To all you men out there I say this. Love your wife and family only second to God. Be head of your household as Christ is head of the Church. If you do not, then you serve not the Lord. Provide a wholesome, stable, Godly environment for your children. Give much discipline and even more love. Our God is love. Satan is hate and discord and the great deceiver. His end will come. We will all be held accountable for our actions. "Judge not lest ye be judged". Any man who uses God's Word to accomplish that which his own heart desires instead of what God desires will be accountable for all he is in control of in his household. To you women..love your husband. Honor him, be submissive to him and be his "helper". If you are choosing someone you cannot honor or be submissive to then you are choosing the wrong man for your husband. And any man who would suggest that you live in a relationship that is anything other than Godly is the wrong one also. It is very important to choose wisely when consenting to becoming someone's wife. It not only involves the rest of your life but the future of your children.
There is much turmoil in the world. The world is becoming very corrupt as in old times. There has to be a change. God says there will be a change. Jesus will come and claim his church. It is coming soon.
